The Office Jester… every office needs one to make sense of office sarcasm
The greatest comedians in the history of mankind will tell you that there’s very little difference between comedy and tragedy. This is precisely why humour is often based around someone else’s misfortune. In fact, the only difference between humour and cynicism is that of perspective.
In fact, there are many examples of this minor divide. Consider people who laugh when they see someone slipping on the floor. Consider friends who find pulling each other’s legs extremely funny and try to one up each other all the time. Even so, to convince you of our argument once and for all, we present you the following video typifying dark, cynical, sarcastic, and dry Brit humour.
When Brit Office Sarcasm Turns Funny
There are layers and layers to this video and you’ll notice it too if you only watch it thoughtfully.
So, this video is funny because it approaches the exploitation of employees by bosses and businesses in an extremely wry and extra dry manner. The most obvious angle is how nothing is enough for a boss.
Not only does Bill save everyone’s life twice but he also seems like a nice guy. Unfortunately, that doesn’t matter in the business world where everyone’s on their own. Granted, he seems like a dull fellow with minimal IQ but his sacrifice should’ve been rewarded.
We especially found it funny how big the handshake was made out to be by the boss as if Bill was beneath him. The sarcasm that followed that handshake was even more outrageous. Tsk! Tsk!
The intern is another angle we can look at. The intern’s situation is the same, regardless of which country or which industry you look at. They literally have to take the sh#t not only from bosses but also from other employees.
Just see how everyone watches this intern struggle with the water bottle while standing there with empty glasses simply because it’s supposedly his job. If that isn’t enough, consider how he’s required to take the grenade out of the office.
